The core CPA preparatory courses - Intermediate Financial Reporting 1, Intermediate Financial Reporting 2, and Advanced Financial Reporting are all under the core competency area of ‘Financial Reporting’.
- If you took the recognized equivalents of these at MacEwan University in Alberta, you currently would have had to take ACCT 301, ACCT 404, and ACCT 406. To meet the ‘currency of education’ requirement you would have had to have taken at least one of these courses within the 10 years preceding your approved admission application to CPA PEP (Note: admission to CPA preparatory courses does not qualify). If all 3 courses are older than 10 years, one of those 3 courses or the equivalent CPA preparatory course would have to be taken to satisfy the currency of education requirement for you to qualify for entry into CPA PEP.
Candidates with significant relevant work experience may apply for an exemption from the currency requirement for a prerequisite course if they successfully completed a relevant course more than 10 years prior to admission to CPA PEP. Assessments of work experience may result in no exemption, a full exemption from a prerequisite course, or a partial exemption from a prerequisite course, requiring candidates to complete the module examination.
