CPA PEP Workshop Accommodations

 

Attending all module workshops is mandatory for all CPA PEP candidates, and according to CPA Canada’s Harmonized Education Policies, required for candidates to be eligible to write the module-end exam. The module schedule is available at least one year in advance. Candidates are expected to register for modules only when they can participate in all module elements (workshops, assignments, exams).  

Ongoing Accommodations

Candidates with ongoing medical circumstances or religious reasons can request ongoing accommodations to miss all or a portion of a workshop through My CPA Portal. Email supporting documentation to cpaaccommodations@cpawsb.ca. 

  • Log into My CPA Portal
  • Select Program Requests
  • Select Accommodation Request
  • Select On-Going request
  • Select the request that matches your circumstances
  • Follow the prompts to complete the request. 

When the accommodation has been approved, it will be valid for all modules remaining in CPA PEP. There is no need to resubmit the request for each session. 

Makeup Activities

Candidates will be assigned make up activities to complete following the workshop weekend.

Extenuating Circumstances

Missing a workshop is permitted only in extenuating circumstances, which require supporting documentation. 

Acceptable extenuating circumstances, documentation and fee requirements appear below:

Reason for absence Documentation Required Fee
Conflict with religious Sabbath or event Letter from religious organization confirming candidate is a member of the organization and dates of Sabbath or religious event Waived with submission of letter of support
Candidate illness  Doctor’s note on letterhead. Letter must contain the candidate’s name, the date, and that candidate could not attend/will not be able to attend the workshop due to illness. Letter must be submitted within five business days of the workshop session.  Waived with submission of doctor’s note
Death of a family member  Copy of the obituary, copy of the funeral program, or a copy of the death certificate Waived with submission of supporting document
Candidate university convocation(1)  Copy of letter from university with date of ceremony Required
Wedding attendance(1) Copy of the wedding invitation Required

     
(1) CPA Canada permits one planned workshop absence per candidate during CPA PEP. If an accommodation is granted for convocation or wedding purposes, no further absences will be permitted.

Submit requests to miss a workshop or a portion of a workshop for a valid extenuating circumstance through My CPA Portal. Email supporting documentation to cpaaccommodations@cpawsb.ca. 

  • Log into My CPA Portal
  • Select Program Requests
  • Select Accommodation Request
  • Select One-Time request
  • Select the request that matches your circumstances
  • Follow the prompts to complete the request. 

The amount of time missed does not affect the accommodation fee.

Makeup Activities

Candidates with approved accommodations will be assigned additional tasks, determined by how much time is missed at the workshop. 

Unexcused Workshop Absences

Candidates who miss a workshop without an acceptable extenuating circumstance may be required to withdraw from the module. Withdrawal penalties will apply.

Workshop dates are listed on the module calendar and workshop locations are posted to the CPAWSB website two weeks in advance of the scheduled session date. Accommodations will not be granted for the following situations:

  • Personal trips
  • Business trips 
  • Vacations 
  • Forgetting to attend the workshop
  • Claims of not knowing about the workshop
  • Claims of not knowing workshop locations
