Questions About Understanding Assessements

How will I receive the transcript assessment results?

Your transcript assessment results will be available on My CPA portal under Program Admission>Transcript Assessment once your assessment is complete.

How do I know which prerequisite courses I still need to complete?

Once your transcript assessment is complete, the results will clearly indicate the outstanding requirements that must be satisfied before you will be eligible to participate in CPA PEP.

What if I disagree with the result of my transcript assessment?

If you disagree with your transcript assessment result, please contact transcriptassessment@cpawsb.ca.

How do I update my assessment once it has been completed, if there are outstanding requirements?

If you have satisfied your outstanding requirements and your transcript assessment is still valid, submit a GAP Verification Request to have your transcript assessment results updated. Log into My CPA Portal and click on Program Admission>Transcript Assessment>REVIEW GAPs. If your transcript assessment is expired and you are not enrolled as a student in CPA preparatory courses or as a candidate in CPA PEP, request and pay for a new assessment and submit updated documentation rather than submitting a gap verification request.

What is a Gap Verification Request?

Any outstanding requirements for entrance into CPA PEP are considered gaps. Once you satisfy a gap, submit a Gap Verification Request to have your transcript assessment results updated. If your transcript assessment is expired and you are not enrolled as a student in CPA preparatory courses or as a candidate in CPA PEP, request and pay for a new assessment and submit updated documentation rather than submitting a gap verification request.

Two courses are listed as required for one prerequisite. I’ve completed course A at one post-secondary institution and course B at a different one. Can I mix and match courses?

When two courses are listed as required for one prerequisite, students are strongly encouraged to complete both courses at one post-secondary institution or through CPA preparatory courses. CPAWSB recognizes prerequisite courses completed at post-secondary institutions based on how programs map courses to the CPA Competency Map and CPA Knowledge Supplement. If you complete courses for one prerequisite at different post-secondary institutions, you may be required to submit course outlines so that we can determine whether the required content has been met.  There is no guarantee that an exemption can be granted.

Do exemptions expire?

For admission to the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP), you should have completed at least one applicable course in each of the core CPA competency areas of Financial Reporting, Strategy and Governance, Management Accounting, Audit and Assurance, Finance and Taxation within the last 10 years. The currency of education will be reviewed when you apply to CPA PEP.

If I withdraw from the program and request an assessment later, will the exemptions I was initially granted and courses completed be recognized?

You must meet the entrance requirements in place when you apply to CPA PEP. These requirements may have changed from when your first assessment was initially completed.
