Honouring the 2025 National Day for Truth and Reconciliation
As we approach the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation (NDTR) on September 30, CPAWSB reaffirms its ongoing commitment to honouring Indigenous history, culture, and traditions. This day provides a critical opportunity to reflect on the legacy of the Canadian residential school system, listen to Indigenous voices, and renew our dedication to reconciliation. In observance of this important occasion, our offices will be closed on Tuesday, September 30.
NDTR is a time for all Canadians to deepen their understanding of the lasting impacts of residential schools and to consider the role each of us plays in advancing reconciliation. At CPAWSB, we are committed to fostering learning and awareness by integrating Indigenous perspectives into our organizational culture and professional development.
Continuing Our Journey Through Experiential Learning
In alignment with this commitment, CPAWSB staff will participate in the Virtual KAIROS Blanket Exercise (vKBE) on Tuesday, October 8, 2025. The vKBE is an interactive workshop that explores the shared and diverse histories of Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada. Covering pre-contact history, treaty-making, colonization, and themes of resistance, resilience, and reconciliation, the exercise creates space for reflection and dialogue.
This initiative supports Call to Action #92 of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, which calls on organizations to educate their employees about Indigenous history, treaty rights, and the legacy of residential schools. By engaging in this experience, CPAWSB staff will strengthen their cultural awareness, promote inclusion, and contribute to a more equitable society.
A Shared Responsibility
We believe that reconciliation is an ongoing journey of listening, learning, and action. Alongside this year’s event, CPAWSB will continue to share resources, encourage reflection, and support participation in local efforts that build stronger relationships with Indigenous communities.
As we observe the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, we invite everyone to take time to reflect, learn, and engage in conversations that honour Indigenous experiences and histories. Together, we can continue building a future rooted in respect, understanding, and justice.
