Transfers

CPAWSB requires learners to be registered in the province or region where they live and work. If you permanently relocate outside of Western Canada, CPAWSB will work with you and the receiving provincial CPA body to transfer your records.

Because CPA PEP and CPA Preparatory Courses are national programs, completed modules, courses, and eligible practical experience will continue to be recognized following an approved transfer.

While your transfer request is being processed, you may continue to:

  • Register for courses through your current region
  • Write examinations in your new region

While your transfer request is being processed, you may continue to:

  • Register for modules through your current region
  • Attend workshops and examinations in your new region

Transferring Out of the Western Region

If you permanently relocate outside Western Canada, you may request a transfer to the provincial CPA body in your new region.

To be eligible for a transfer, candidates must:

  • Be active for the current academic year
  • Be in good standing with CPAWSB
  • Have no outstanding fees
  • Have resolved any outstanding good character declarations
  • Have all practical experience reported and up to date in PERT, if applicable

Only candidates who have permanently relocated should request a transfer. If your move is temporary, you may remain enrolled with CPAWSB and arrange with the Module Services team to attend workshops and write examinations in your temporary location.

To begin the transfer process, CPA PEP candidates should first obtain confirmation from their provincial CPA body that their practical experience file is ready for transfer.

Once confirmation has been received:

  1. Email [email protected] to request the official transfer form.
  2. CPAWSB will notify the receiving region and forward your learner file.
  3. The receiving region will contact you with enrollment instructions and next steps.

Fees and Annual Dues

  • Candidates transferring between regions are not required to pay the CPA PEP initial registration fee when enrolling in the new region.
  • Annual dues will be assessed based on the date the transfer is completed.
  • Depending on when the transfer occurs, you may be eligible for a prorated refund of dues previously paid to CPAWSB.

Note: If you are eligible for a refund, it will be processed automatically. No additional request is required.

While the transfer is being processed, candidates may continue to:

  • Register for modules through their current region
  • Attend workshops and examinations in their new region

To be eligible for a transfer, students must:

  • Be active for the current academic year
  • Be in good standing with CPAWSB
  • Have no outstanding fees
  • Have resolved any outstanding good character declarations, if applicable

To begin the transfer process, contact [email protected] to request the official transfer form. CPAWSB will notify the receiving region and forward your file. The receiving region will then contact you with enrollment instructions.

Annual dues are assessed based on the date the transfer is completed. Depending on the timing of the transfer, students may be eligible for a prorated refund of dues paid to CPAWSB.

While the transfer is being processed, students may continue to:

  • Register for courses through their current region
  • Write examinations in their new region

This keeps the transfer eligibility requirements, temporary-move exception, fees, and process details together under the appropriate heading.

Transferring to the Western Region

If you are moving to a Western Canadian province or territory, work with your current provincial CPA body to have your file transferred to CPAWSB.

Once CPAWSB receives your transfer package, we will work with you to complete your enrollment. Depending on the timing of your transfer, you may be eligible for a prorated refund of dues paid to your previous provincial CPA body. Fees are not transferred between regions. Therefore, any refund eligibility questions should be directed to your originating region, as refunds are issued by that organization, not CPAWSB.

Relocating Within the Western Region

If you move between Western Canadian provinces or territories (Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Northwest Territories, Nunavut, or Yukon), contact CPAWSB to update your records and governing CPA body.
