Legal Name Verification and Personal Information Changes

Legal Name Verification

In accordance with provincial legislation and the CPA Harmonized Education Policies, all CPA PEP applicants must provide proof of their full legal name as part of the admission process.

To satisfy this requirement, applicants must upload a high-quality copy of a government-issued primary identification document that displays their full legal name.

  • Canadian citizens: Your legal name is the name shown on your birth certificate or, if applicable, your current legal name following marriage, divorce, or a legal name change.
  • Non-Canadian citizens: Your legal name is the name shown on your passport and/or immigration documents.

Note: Only JPEG, PDF, or PNG files smaller than 5 MB will be accepted.

Admission to CPA PEP

All learners are required to upload a high quality copy of one of the following identification documents through the My CPA Portal:

  • Canadian driver's licence
  • Canadian birth certificate
  • Passport (any nationality)
  • Canadian Citizenship Certificate or Card
  • Permanent Resident Card
  • Record of Landing (landing paper)
  • Nexus identification card
  • Certificate of Indian Status card

Important: CPA PEP applications are held for one week following submission. If the required identification documentation is not uploaded within one week, the application will be cancelled and a full refund will be issued. Applicants are encouraged to have their identification document ready before submitting their application.

Personal Information Changes

CPAWSB communicates with learners using the information stored in the My CPA Portal. Learners are responsible for ensuring that their information remains accurate and up to date, including:

  • Legal first and last name
  • Home address
  • Phone number(s)
  • Email address(es)
  • Employment information

You must use your legal name when creating your My CPA profile.

If you would like correspondence addressed using a different name, you may enter it in the optional Preferred Name field. Preferred names are used only for informal communications, such as email correspondence.

Official documents, including transcripts, status letters, and other official records, will always display your legal name.

Name Changes for Continuing CPA PEP Learners

If any part of your legal name changes while enrolled in CPA PEP, you must submit updated supporting documentation reflecting your current legal name.

Requests to change a first name, middle name, last name, or a combination of names must be supported by one of the accepted identification documents listed above.

Name change requests will be processed only after appropriate documentation has been received and verified.

For additional information, please refer to CPAWSB's Privacy and Documentation Retention policies.
