Knowledge Assessment

Last updated on August 28, 2026

The Knowledge Assessment is a way for applicants who have not recently completed 45 credit hours of business and accounting courses (with specific competency coverage) to demonstrate that they have the prerequisite knowledge that will help them be successful in the CPA Professional Program.

Determine Eligibility

To write the Knowledge Assessment, applicants must have completed an Academic Review within the past year confirming that they met the Academic Requirements. As such, we encourage applicants to complete the Knowledge Assessment as soon as possible, as a valid Academic Review is required to enter the CPA Professional Program.

Materials and Format

Applicants are encouraged to review the Competency Map 2.0  for more information on the knowledge needed to enter the CPA Professional Program and Knowledge Assessment test materials.

The Knowledge Assessment will be a five-hour exam, consisting of two time-bound sections, each testing different competencies. For information about the format of the exam, please refer to the Exam Guide. Sample questions have been posted, and a full sample exam will be made available in early 2027.

Result Validity

Once applicants have passed the Knowledge Assessment, their result will be valid for five years. Those who do not apply for and enter the CPA Professional Program within their five-year deadline will be required to take the Knowledge Assessment again.

More information on policies and procedures, including exam regulations and exam software details, will be available in 2027.

Fees and Schedule

The Knowledge Assessment will be offered three times a year. Please refer to the Exam Schedules page regularly for updated information as all dates posted are subject to change without notice. The Knowledge Assessment fee is $1000 + GST.

Information about how to register and where the exams will be offered will be available late 2026.
