FAQs
The current business landscape is increasingly data-driven. Employers of CPAs have expressed that data analytics is quickly becoming a necessary skill for careers in accounting and finance.
As a result, data analytics and information systems (DAIS) was added to the CPA Competency Map and made a testable topic on the Common Final Examination (CFE).
If you completed your degree requirements before September 1, 2023:
- DAIS competencies are not assessed for admission to CPA PEP.
- You may still benefit from completing DAIS-related coursework or reviewing DAIS content in the Introduction to PEP module.
If you completed your degree requirements on or after September 1, 2023:
- You are expected to have introductory-level DAIS knowledge before entering CPA PEP.
- For programs listed in the CPA Academic Prerequisites Guide, any required DAIS course(s) identified for that program should be completed.
- If your program is not listed or does not include a DAIS course, you are encouraged to complete a recognized DAIS course where possible.
Important: Applicants may begin CPA PEP without having completed a specific DAIS course.
If your post-secondary institution does not offer a dedicated DAIS course or has not integrated DAIS concepts into its curriculum, you will have an opportunity to review and strengthen your understanding of DAIS topics through the Introduction to PEP module.
No. DAIS competencies have been integrated throughout existing CPA Preparatory Courses, and there is no stand-alone preparatory course dedicated to DAIS.
