Data Analytics and Information Systems (DAIS)

Admission Requirements for CPA PEP

The CPA profession has integrated Data Analytics and Information Systems (DAIS) throughout the CPA Competency Map, CPA Preparatory Courses, and the Common Final Examination (CFE). Applicants are encouraged to have an introductory understanding of DAIS before entering CPA PEP.

Beginning September 1, 2023, applicants entering CPA PEP are expected to have exposure to DAIS competencies through post-secondary studies, CPA Preparatory Courses, or other introductory learning opportunities.

All CPA PEP candidates are enrolled in the Introduction to PEP module when they begin CPA PEP. The module:

  • Provides an introduction to DAIS concepts and resources
  • Familiarizes candidates with CPA PEP policies and procedures
  • Explains module expectations and structure
  • Introduces the D2L learning platform and available learner resources

FAQs

The current business landscape is increasingly data-driven. Employers of CPAs have expressed that data analytics is quickly becoming a necessary skill for careers in accounting and finance.

As a result, data analytics and information systems (DAIS) was added to the CPA Competency Map and made a testable topic on the Common Final Examination (CFE).

If you completed your degree requirements before September 1, 2023:

  • DAIS competencies are not assessed for admission to CPA PEP.
  • You may still benefit from completing DAIS-related coursework or reviewing DAIS content in the Introduction to PEP module.

If you completed your degree requirements on or after September 1, 2023:

Important: Applicants may begin CPA PEP without having completed a specific DAIS course.

If your post-secondary institution does not offer a dedicated DAIS course or has not integrated DAIS concepts into its curriculum, you will have an opportunity to review and strengthen your understanding of DAIS topics through the Introduction to PEP module.
