CPAWSB recently presented Rosina Rosales, CPA, CA, with the KBH Facilitator Award, which recognizes facilitators or session leaders who have had a notable and positive impact on their candidates and approach their role with dedication to excellence.

Rosina Rosales, CPA, CA, enjoyed accounting in high school but didn’t intend on joining the profession. Instead, she planned on going into law and pursued a joint bachelor’s degree in business and arts from the University of Calgary. It wasn’t until an accounting career workshop in her fifth year that she discovered forensic accounting. As she learned a little more, she realized that this was how she would be able to combine her interests of law and business. She then changed career direction and qualified as a CA in 2003. She now works as a forensic accountant in the Calgary area, tackling anything from litigation work to fraud and criminal investigations.

Rosina began working in accounting education after one of her facilitators suggested that she attend facilitator training. Even though she initially didn’t see herself as being suitable for the role, she discovered that she enjoyed guiding candidates, first as an online facilitator for the legacy CA program and then directing class conversations in the program’s workshops. She has been a CPA PEP session leader since the program started. With candidates she translates her passion for figuring out accounting puzzles into helping them work through their own puzzles. It’s her ability to connect with candidates and make content relatable and understandable that makes her such a great instructor, and the Alberta KBH award recipient.

She appreciates how the skillset developed in the CPA PEP program can translate into a variety of career options, and encourages candidates to figure out what they love to do. While there are required components in the modules, Rosina assures candidates that “there are no limits to what they can do. Jobs can change quickly and so does the industry.”

Regardless of the season, Rosina loves to be active. During the colder months, she does yoga and is an avid Calgary Flames fan, making full use of her season tickets. In the summer, she goes for walks and enjoys her gardens.

CPAWSB is proud to have Rosina as part of its team. Congratulations, Rosina!
