The list below contains important updates for the upcoming 2024/2025 calendar year. Please read carefully and note any important action items and/or deadlines.

Open Enrollment Core Courses

In the 2024/2025 academic year, all core CPA preparatory courses will be piloted as open enrollment, self-paced courses. Students can register at any time and access course materials within five business days of enrollment. Students can complete course materials at their own pace and take the final exam within one year of course registration at any available exam sitting.

Core CPA preparatory courses will only be available as open enrollment courses, 2024 Semester 1 marks the final chance to complete a core course under the semester delivery format. For more information, please visit the CPA preparatory courses webpage.

Exam Updates

In 2024, there will be changes to the preparatory course exam schedule, format, length, and regulations.

  • Core Course Exams: Exams will be in-person at designated centers using CPA-issued laptops with lockdown software. A Texas Instrument BA II Plus calculator will be provided; exam regulations prohibit students from bringing their own calculators. Exam duration will be shortened from 4 to 3 hours, decreasing the number of questions.
  • Non-Core Course Exams: Exams will be conducted remotely on students' computers using online software. Stable internet access is required. Details on computer requirements and exam software will be available in Brightspace (D2L) by February 2024. Exam duration will be shortened from 3 to 2 hours, decreasing the number of questions.

For updates, regularly review the exam schedule, exam blueprint, and exam regulations.

Study Permit Requirement and Residency Status Change

To maintain status as an active learner, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident or hold a valid study permit while registered with CPAWSB. If you hold a study permit, you must submit a study permit renewal application to the Canadian government.

To request documentation to support your study permit application, please submit a request for a status letter on My CPA Portal, identifying the request is for a study permit.

If your residency status has changed and you are now a permanent resident or a Canadian citizen, please provide your documentation to prepadvising@cpawsb.ca, and we will update your account.

Keeping Contact Information Current

When completing annual re-enrollment, ensure that your first and last name listed in My CPA Portal matches your legal name. A legal name is essential to confirm your membership and attend examinations. Also, ensure your home address, phone number(s), and email address(es) are current so that CPAWSB can communicate key program updates to you.

If you recently moved or are planning to move to another province or territory, contact prepadvising@cpawsb.ca for assistance in updating your governance or residency status.
