You need to meet the 120-credit hour requirement to enter the CPA Professional Education Program. Master’s or post-graduate degrees are usually only equivalent to 60 credit hours. Therefore, you do need to have your undergraduate degree transcripts submitted to ensure you meet the 120-credit hour requirement. Another reason for having your undergraduate post-secondary transcripts submitted is for possible credit towards the 14 prerequisite courses required for entry into CPA PEP.
Answer for applicant type: CPA Accredited Program
Although you are not required to have a CPAWSB transcript assessment completed, you still need to have an official undergraduate degree transcript that includes the conferral date submitted to CPAWSB in a sealed (unopened) envelope directly from the issuing institution.
Furthermore, as soon as it is available after convocation, all CPA accredited program grads, except for University of Saskatchewan MPAcc grads, must also have an official transcript for the accredited program submitted directly to CPAWSB from the post-secondary institution.
Answer for applicant type: IFAC Members
As an applicant who is a current member in good standing with an International Designation with an accounting body that is a member of IFAC, in addition to a letter of good standing, a third-party basic assessment, and a detailed resume, you only need to have official transcripts submitted from your international accounting body.

The following question is for Canadian degree applicants only
(This Q only applies to applicant type: Canadian degree)
If you qualify to enroll as a conditional candidate and you are registered in Core 1 or planning on registering for Core 1 immediately after you complete your final semester, you may submit an unofficial transcript to be used to assess your eligibility into CPA PEP and the Core 1 module. Unofficial transcripts are to be sent in a pdf format to transcriptassessment@cpawsb.ca and must include your name along with the institution. They should also show any courses that are being completed as in-progress.
Please arrange for the official transcript with conferral date to be submitted as soon as the transcripts are available.
The following question is for International degree applicants only
(This Q only applies to applicant type: International degree)
If there is no way for you to obtain official transcripts from the post-secondary institution you attended and you are unable to request a WES ICAP assessment, CPAWSB will accept an official third-party verification submitted directly from a recognized third-party evaluation service provider based on unofficial transcripts you may have. This can be used for degree recognition only. No transfer credit will be recognized in this case. Not all third-party evaluation service providers will allow you to use unofficial transcripts.
If you are unable to have official documents sent, please contact the Transcript Assessment team to discuss your situation before doing anything else. Email transcriptassessment@cpawsb.ca or call 1.866.420.2350 ext. 6003.
The following question is for Canadian degree, International degree, Mature Status (only if post-secondary education has been taken), and Co-op/Summer Student (after graduating from their degree program) applicant types only
(This Q only applies to applicant types: Canadian degree, International degree, Mature Status (only if post-secondary education has been taken), and Co-op/Summer Students (after graduating)
If you received credit from one post-secondary institution for courses taken at another post-secondary institution, arrange to have both official transcripts submitted and ensure both post-secondary institutions are listed as Req’d (required) in your document checklist. The Transcript Assessment Team needs to see the original marks, credit hours, etc., to determine if courses are eligible for any transfer credit(s). If you have already requested a transcript assessment and the original post-secondary institution is not listed on your document checklist and/or is not checked as required, contact the transcript assessment team to speak with an Inspector and have your document checklist corrected
The following questions are for Canadian degree, International degree, and Mature Status (only if post-secondary education has been taken) applicant types only
(This Q only applies to applicant types: International degree, Canadian degree, and Mature Status (if post-secondary education was taken))
Request official transcripts from every Canadian post-secondary institution (PSI) you attended and have them sent directly to CPAWSB. Also ensure that each post-secondary institution is listed on your document checklist. Include all accounting and non-accounting education. If you completed a 3 or 4-year degree or Master’s degree in Canada, you should apply to CPAWSB as an applicant with a Canadian degree.
(This Q only applies to applicant types: International degree, Canadian degree, and Mature Status)
The course syllabus should provide detailed information on the course textbook used, weekly schedule of course topics, course learning objectives, course evaluation criteria and the textbook chapters used in the course. The course syllabus should match when the course was taken (for example, if you took the course in 2015, provide the 2015 syllabus).
A course syllabus should include the following information:
- Post-secondary institution letterhead, symbol, logo, etc.
- Course overview, learning outcomes or objectives
- Course(s) details (course name/number, course hours, semester/term, year, lecture times, instructor details)
- The year of the syllabus must be indicated and must match the year the course(s) were completed (as indicated on your transcript)
- Course assessments (assignments, quizzes, exams, projects, case studies, etc.)
- Grading scale used by the post-secondary institution
- Course textbooks and other materials
- Description of the topics covered in the course
- Course prerequisite(s)/anti-requisite(s)/transfer credit(s) (if any)
Other considerations:
- Course descriptions in the context of an email cannot be accepted as sufficiently verifiable documentation
- Course syllabus must be in the original form as provided by the post-secondary institution
- Course syllabus should be submitted in PDF format
- Course syllabus in a language other than English require a translation to be submitted directly by a certified translator
If you have questions regarding any of the points above or about submitting the syllabus, please contact the Transcript Assessment team by emailing transcriptassessment@cpawsb.ca or calling 1.866.420.2350 ext. 6003.
The following questions are for International degree and IFAC member applicant types only
(This Q only applies to applicant types: International degree and IFAC member)
Answer for an applicant with an International Degree:
In addition to requesting and paying for a CPAWSB transcript assessment, applicants with an international (non-Canadian) degree must have a third-party verification of their international transcripts submitted directly to CPAWSB from the issuing organization. The preferred third-party assessment is a WES ICAP evaluation .
Answer for an applicant with an International Designation (IFAC Member):
In addition to requesting and paying for a CPAWSB transcript assessment, applicants with an international designation (IFAC Member) must have a third-party basic assessment of their non-Canadian education credentials. It must be from one of the assessment services registered with the Alliance of Credential Evaluations Services of Canada (ACESC) . The assessment is used to verify the Canadian equivalency of your international education credentials.
(This Q only applies to applicant types: International degree and IFAC member)
The third-party evaluation service and CPA Western School of Business are different organizations and the assessments they provide serve different purposes. The fee you paid for the third-party report is to verify your international education and identify the Canadian degree equivalency, which CPAWSB uses to determine if you meet the degree and 120-credit hour admission requirements. The transcript assessment performed by CPAWSB is to review the courses you completed and grades received, as identified on the transcript, to determine whether any CPA prerequisite exemptions can be granted and summarizes your eligibility for entry into CPA PEP using the third-party assessment results.
(This Q only applies to applicant types: International degree, and IFAC member)
Answer for Applicants with an International degree:
If you have used or are using a third-party verification other than WES ICAP:
- The third-party assessment must be completed by one of the assessment services registered with the Alliance of Credential Evaluations Services of Canada (ACESC) .
- Official post-secondary transcripts must also be submitted to CPAWSB.
- Please contact the Transcript Assessment team by calling 1.866.420.2350 ext. 6003 or emailing transcriptassessment@cpawsb.ca for additional important information and to discuss your situation.
Answer for Applicants with an International Designation (IFAC Member):
A WES ICAP is not required. Only a basic assessment of your non-Canadian education credentials is required. It must be from one of the assessment services registered with the Alliance of Credential Evaluations Services of Canada (ACESC) . The assessment is used to verify the Canadian equivalency of your international education credentials.
(This Q only applies to applicant types: International degree and IFAC member)
Reports must be sent to CPAWSB directly from the Canadian third-party evaluation organization. Please arrange to have another copy sent directly from the third-party evaluation organization to our office.
If the institution offers electronic official documents, please request them to be emailed to: transcriptassessment@cpawsb.ca.
(This Q only applies to applicant types: International degree and IFAC member)
