Starting CPA PEP as a Conditional Candidate with

a completed assessment status of “PEP Conditional Core 1”

If you are in the final semester of your degree program, completing your final prerequisite courses, or waiting for your degree to be conferred and you want to avoid missing the registration period for an upcoming offering of Core 1 because of an approaching module registration deadline, you may qualify to start Core 1 as a conditional candidate.

To qualify, you need to have a CPAWSB transcript assessment completed and obtain an assessment result of PEP conditional core 1, before submitting a CPA PEP admission application. This will allow you to apply for admission to CPA PEP and register for the next offering of Core 1 during the module registration period, without having to wait until all in progress prerequisites and degree requirements are completed.

To qualify for a result of PEP conditional core 1 on your transcript assessment, you need to meet all CPA PEP admission requirements with the exception of one or more of the three allowed conditions outlined below:

If the outstanding prerequisite courses are being taken at a post-secondary institution:

Submit official or unofficial transcripts showing your final prerequisites are in progress. Required for your assessment to be completed.
Send an email to transcriptassessment@cpawsb.ca indicating the final exam date for each course. Required for your assessment to be completed.
To qualify, the final exam(s) for the course(s) must take place before the Core 1 start date.

If the outstanding prerequisite courses are being taken as CPA preparatory courses:

No further action is required from you to demonstrate the courses are in progress.

Submit official or unofficial transcripts showing you have completed the degree requirements and met the requirements to enter CPA PEP, even though the transcripts do not yet show a conferral date. Required for your assessment to be completed.

If official transcripts cannot be submitted in time to have the assessment completed before the start of Core 1, unofficial transcripts will be accepted to determine your eligibility to enroll in CPA PEP and participate in the next Core 1 offering as a conditional candidate. Required for your assessment to be completed.

Deadlines for submitting an admission application for CPA PEP, and registering for CPA PEP Core 1

To register in Core 1 without paying a late fee, keep the following processes and turn-around times in mind so you will have enough time to enroll before the module registration deadline:

To register in Core 1, you must have an approved admission application. Once your admission application is approved, you log into the My CPA portal and register for Core 1. Registration is done as soon as you complete the module registration process.
You must submit a CPA PEP admission application at least five business days before the Core 1 module registration deadline. This allows for enough time to process your admission application and for you to log into the My CPA portal and register for Core 1 before the module registration period closes. If you submit your application less than 5 business days before the module registration period closes your application may not be processed before the deadline and you will be required to pay the wait list fee.
As mentioned, to have an admission application approved, you must have a completed CPAWSB transcript assessment that indicates you are PEP Conditional Core 1 (or PEP eligible). Transcript assessments are typically completed within 10 business days from the time all required documents are received.
You will also need to consider how much time will be needed to submit all required documents for the transcript assessment. The assessment will not be started by an assessor until all required documents are received.

If you miss the Core 1 registration deadline, you may be eligible for placement on the module registration wait list. Your CPA PEP admission application must be submitted one month before the start of Core 1 to be eligible for placement on the wait list. The Module Registration Wait List fee is $310 plus GST and subject to change. As long as your admission application was approved at least one month before the Core 1 start date, you can apply for the wait list up until one week before the module start date.

Responsibilities and Deadlines to Become fully PEP Eligible

Even though you can start CPA PEP and Core 1 as a Conditional Candidate, you are still required to submit outstanding documentation, within specified deadlines, to achieve an assessment status of PEP Eligible and be allowed to continue your CPA studies after the deadlines are reached. Click on each applicable condition to learn more about the required documents and deadlines that must be completed for you to become fully PEP Eligible.

If the outstanding prerequisites are being taken through a post-secondary institution, when your final courses are completed and the marks have been posted, have the post-secondary institution submit directly to CPAWSB an official transcript that includes the final marks for the outstanding course(s).
Deadline: You will be allowed to participate in Core 1 and register for Core 2 but you will not be allowed to participate in Core 2 if CPAWSB has not received an official transcript that includes final marks for all courses before the start of Core 2.

If the outstanding prerequisite courses are being taken as CPA preparatory courses, nothing further is required from you as your transcript assessment will automatically be updated when those courses are completed.

Once your degree has been conferred, have the post-secondary institution submit directly to CPAWSB an official transcript that includes the conferral date.

Deadline: You will be allowed to participate in Core 1 and Core 2 but won’t receive your Core 2 final marks or be able to continue your CPA PEP studies until CPAWSB receives official transcripts that include the conferral date.

Have all outstanding official transcripts and documents submitted to CPAWSB.

Deadline: You will be allowed to participate in Core 1 and register for Core 2 but you will not be allowed to participate in Core 2 if CPAWSB has not received all outstanding official transcripts and documents before the Core 2 start date.
