The CPA Western School of Business (CPAWSB) is seeking a dedicated volunteer to join its Audit Committee—a key committee that supports the Board of Directors in maintaining strong financial stewardship, risk management, and internal controls.
By joining CPAWSB, you will contribute to an innovative, competency-based learning organization that supports more than 15,000 learners across Western and Northern Canada. As an Audit Committee member, you will work alongside a diverse group of professionals, including one Board member. Appointments are for a three-year term, with the possibility of renewal.
The committee meets virtually four times per year for approximately 90 minutes per meeting. Total time commitment is estimated at three to four hours per quarter, including meeting preparation.
The Audit Committee provides oversight and recommendations related to:
· The external audit and annual report
· Financial reporting, accounting policies, and disclosures
· Fraud risk management
· Information technology systems, including cybersecurity and major implementations
· Enterprise risk management effectiveness
· Corporate compliance
· Strengthening internal controls
Applicants must be:
· A CPA in good standing
The following experience is considered an asset:
· Prior audit committee or board experience
· Experience serving as a committee chair or Board member
· Familiarity with Part III of the CPA Canada Handbook and Canadian Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations
· Experience in the education sector
· Experience overseeing IT systems, cybersecurity risk, and significant technology implementations
· Preference may be given to candidates residing in British Columbia or Manitoba, to support regional and geographical representation on the committee
