The CPA Western School of Business (CPAWSB) is seeking an experienced, strategic, and collaborative Vice-President, CPA Professional Examinations to lead the national exam development and marking functions for the CPA profession. This is a rare opportunity to build a new examination function from the ground up – helping to define the structures, processes, systems, and teams that will support the creation, evaluation, and marking of the CPA profession’s examinations.
The Vice-President will oversee a high-impact portfolio responsible for the strategic leadership and operational oversight of the examination program. In this role, you will guide the full lifecycle of exam development, including planning, exam content creation, psychometric analysis, standard-setting activities, marking, and the reporting of results to exam writers, provincial, territorial and Bermudian (PTB) regulatory bodies, the public and other key partners.
This role ensures that all examinations align with the CPA Professional Program and Competency Map 2.0, support valid and reliable measurement of candidate achievement, and meet regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements across all PTBs in Canada. You will collaborate closely with the Certification Collaboration Committee (CCC), support the Board of Examiners (BOE) in establishing exam content and Fair Pass Standards, and partner with PTBs, subject matter experts, psychometricians, vendors, and internal teams to build a robust, accessible, bilingual, and defensible examination program that reflects the CPA profession’s high standards.
What the Successful Candidate Will Bring
Education
· Master’s degree in education, assessment, psychometrics, measurement, or a related field required (PhD, an asset).
· CPA designation or certification in assessment/credentialing, an asset.
Experience
· 8 to 10+ years of progressive experience in exam development, professional certification, psychometrics, or related fields.
· Proven leadership experience managing high-stakes examination programs.
· Experience with statistical analysis, exam content development, and standard‑setting methodologies.
· Demonstrated ability to manage complex projects with multiple partners.
Skills and Attributes
· Strategic, systems-level thinker with strong governance orientation.
· Deep understanding of assessment principles, exam development methodologies, and psychometric validity.
· Exceptional communication with the ability to translate technical information for diverse audiences.
· Strong relationship-building skills wit the ability to collaborate effectively across teams and organizations.
· Strong understanding of exam quality, fairness, accessibility, and bilingual requirements.
· Excellent project management, organizational, and problem‑solving abilities.
· Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, guide and support high-performing teams.
This role is eligible for hybrid work. The CPAWSB is based primarily in Edmonton, Calgary, and Vancouver. If based outside of these centers, the successful candidate may be required to travel to a CPAWSB office from time to time, or as required.
The salary range for this role is $168,000 to $252,000.
