Candidates transitioning to the CPA Professional Program may receive recognition for the education, exams, and experience they have successfully completed in CPA PEP provided their program completion time limit is after December 31, 2028. Please note, existing CPA PEP policies remain in place for CPA PEP candidates until they complete the program or transition to the CPA Professional Program.
What’s changing (current candidates)
Canada’s CPA certification pathway is moving from the current program to the new program.
- Current program: CPA Certification Program (CPA PEP, the CFE, and Practical Experience Requirements (PER))
- New program: CPA Professional Program
- Transition period: January 1, 2027, to December 31, 2028

For transition eligibility, we use your PER completion deadline (the 7-year deadline).
Check your Practical Experience Deadline on My CPA portal
- If your Practical Experience Deadline is on or before December 31, 2028 → You are not eligible to transition
- If your Practical Experience Deadline is after December 31, 2028 → You may be eligible to transition (subject to additional requirements)
International MOU candidates: MOU candidates are not eligible to transition under the standard framework at this time and should
refer to the MOU page.
